Department of Education Investigates Alleged ‘Ghost Students’ in Private Schools

·

The Department of Education (DepEd) has launched an investigation into claims of ‘ghost students’ at twelve private schools across nine divisions. Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the importance of this probe, stating that the misuse of public funds allocated for the Senior High School (SHS) voucher program is a serious concern. Angara stressed that DepEd will not tolerate any fraudulent activities that compromise educational funding. Should the allegations be substantiated, the implicated schools could face the termination of their participation in the SHS voucher program. The department is actively collecting evidence and considering both administrative and criminal actions. Furthermore, DepEd is gearing up to revoke the accreditation of any schools found guilty of these charges.
