Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) introduced the BCPOView Baguio app on February 17, 2025, aimed at providing real-time updates on traffic and parking conditions across the city. The initiative, spearheaded by BCPO chief Col. Ruel Tagel, seeks to alleviate the persistent issue of traffic congestion by offering residents and visitors immediate insights into the city’s road situation.
Col. Tagel emphasized that the app, developed by tech-savvy BCPO staff, is designed to help users make informed decisions about their travel plans. It provides detailed information on traffic conditions in the Central Business District and available parking spaces, helping to reduce time wasted searching for parking and contributing to smoother traffic flow.
The app also features crowd estimates at popular tourist spots, assisting users in deciding whether to proceed with their visits or choose alternative times. Tagel highlighted that the continuous search for parking significantly contributes to road congestion, and the app aims to mitigate this problem.
Available for free on Android devices, the BCPOView Baguio app prioritizes accessibility for the general public. While enhancements for more advanced smartphones are in development, the focus remains on serving the majority of users with Android phones. Tagel noted that the app’s development was part of his agenda since taking office in October, aligning with his broader goals of discipline, crime prevention, and environmental protection.
The app is set to evolve with ongoing improvements, including route suggestions based on real-time data. BCPO information officer Mary Grace Maron added that the app, dubbed ‘Maginhawa at ligtas na paglalakbay’ (safe and convenient travel), also includes advisories, city ordinances, and emergency contact numbers. Users can access the app by scanning a QR code on the BCPO’s official Facebook page or downloading it from the Playstore.
