Three Weather Patterns to Persist Across the Philippines on Sunday

·

MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Sunday that the shearline, easterlies, and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will continue to influence weather conditions across various regions of the country. According to the 4 a.m. bulletin, the shearline is expected to cause cloudy conditions with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in Batanes and the Babuyan Islands. Similarly, the easterlies, which are winds originating from the Pacific, will lead to cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon. The ITCZ will bring similar weather conditions to the Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, and Sarangani. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other parts of the country will experience partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. PAGASA has issued warnings about potential flash floods or landslides during periods of moderate to heavy rains or severe thunderstorms. Obet Badrina from PAGASA noted that the western side of Luzon will see warmer temperatures as the northeast monsoon, or ‘amihan,’ has slightly weakened. However, Badrina forecasts a resurgence of the northeast monsoon in the coming days, which will usher in colder weather starting Monday. Northern Luzon will experience moderate southeast to northeast winds and moderate seas, while the rest of the country will see light to moderate east to northeast winds and slight to moderate coastal waters. Temperatures are expected to range between 23.4°C and 30.6°C.
