Philippine Army Discovers Hidden Weapons in Nueva Ecija’s Mountains

·

In a significant operation over the weekend, the Philippine Army’s 91st Infantry Battalion, part of the 7th Infantry Division, discovered a hidden arsenal in the mountainous village of Barangay Sawmill, Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija. The operation, spurred by information from a former rebel, led to the seizure of various weapons and explosives believed to be linked to the remnants of the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya Sierra Madre, a group that has been officially dismantled.

The haul included an M16 rifle, a .38 caliber pistol, a high-explosive hand grenade, along with spent bullet casings, live ammunition, and magazines. The military announced the success of the operation on Sunday, February 16, 2025, describing it as a major setback for the remaining members of the Komiteng Rehiyon Gitnang Luzon.

The Army emphasized that this operation underscores their ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent groups and maintain peace and stability in the region. In light of this, the military has once again urged insurgents to lay down their arms and take advantage of government programs offering financial aid, livelihood support, and assistance for reintegration into society.
