In a significant move to bolster military collaboration, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), under the leadership of Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., engaged in high-level discussions with the German Armed Forces at the Munich Security Conference on February 14, 2025. The AFP announced on February 16 that the talks, led by Gen. Brawner and his German counterpart, Gen. Carsten Breuer, were aimed at deepening military cooperation. The focus of the meeting was on expanding joint efforts in cyber warfare, military education and training, and maritime activities. This engagement is part of the Philippines’ strategy to enhance its defense capabilities and address common security challenges through stronger international partnerships. The AFP emphasized that such cooperation is crucial for maintaining regional stability and advancing their defense objectives.
