Starting March 15, drivers on major toll expressways will need to use cashless and contactless payment methods, as announced by the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) on Saturday. This follows a successful trial period of the contactless payment system. To comply with the new system, all vehicles must be equipped with an Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) device or an RFID sticker. The TRB emphasized that the cashless system will enhance efficiency at all toll plazas by utilizing the ETC system. Vehicles lacking a valid RFID will face penalties, including the issuance of a temporary operator’s permit or a show cause order, under the ‘No Valid ETC Device, No Entry’ policy. However, such vehicles will still be permitted to pass through toll plazas where they will be fitted with the necessary ETC device or RFID sticker. The TRB noted that lanes designated for cash payments often cause traffic jams, slowing down the flow towards ETC lanes. The board anticipates that restricting these lanes to ETC users only will significantly improve traffic flow. Motorists are encouraged to equip their vehicles with RFID stickers, which can be installed at various stations located both within and outside the expressways.
