President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has encouraged local government officials in Iloilo to work hand-in-hand with the national government on upcoming infrastructure developments in the region. This call to action came during his recent engagement with the Regional Development Council in Iloilo City, where he expressed unwavering support for key projects across Western Visayas.
Marcos highlighted the significance of local input in national initiatives, stating that it is crucial for the national government to understand the needs and perspectives of local communities. He stressed the importance of both large and small projects, as long as they align with national goals.
During the meeting, Marcos received detailed updates on several major projects, including the ongoing rehabilitation of the Boracay Circumferential Road and the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project Stage III. He was also briefed on the progress of the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Island Bridge Project, the Panay Railway System, the Boracay Bridge Project, and road expansions in Aklan.
Local leaders shared updates on other significant developments such as the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Economic Highway, the Panay East-West Road, the Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project, and the proposed Iloilo-Capiz-Aklan Expressway.
