In a heartfelt message on social media, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. extended his warmest birthday wishes to Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile, who turned 101 on Friday. Marcos expressed his gratitude for having Enrile as part of his team, describing him as a blessing and a vital asset due to his extensive experience and wisdom.

Marcos praised Enrile as a statesman, a legal expert, and an outstanding public servant whose life has been remarkably well-lived. He wished Enrile continued good health, cheer, and spirits on this special day, which also happens to be Valentine’s Day. Marcos highlighted Enrile’s significant role in shaping the nation’s history and his ongoing contribution to the country.

Enrile’s career in public service began under the administration of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., where he served in various key positions including finance undersecretary, acting head of the Insurance Commission, acting Customs commissioner, acting finance secretary, chairperson of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank, and defense secretary. His legislative career included four terms in the Senate, where he also served as the 21st Senate President, and a term in the House of Representatives representing Cagayan’s first district.

Despite announcing his retirement from public service in 2016, Enrile made a comeback by running in the 2019 senatorial race, though he was unsuccessful. In July 2022, he was appointed as Marcos Jr.’s chief legal counsel, continuing his long and distinguished service to the nation.
