Philippines Voices Concern Over Chinese Fighter Jet’s Actions Against Australian Aircraft in South China Sea

·

The Philippine government has raised concerns following an incident where a Chinese fighter jet deployed flares near an Australian military aircraft during a routine patrol in the South China Sea. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) emphasized the importance of respecting freedom of navigation and overflight in international waters and airspace. The incident involved a Chinese J-16 fighter jet performing what were described as ‘unsafe maneuvers’ close to a Royal Australian Air Force P-8A Poseidon. The Australian Defence Ministry confirmed that such patrols are a regular part of their operations in the region, conducted in compliance with international law. Fortunately, no injuries or damage were reported among the Australian Defence Force personnel or to their aircraft.
