Aurora Election Candidates Voluntarily Surrender 12 Firearms

·

In a significant move towards ensuring peace during the upcoming midterm elections, candidates in Aurora have voluntarily surrendered a total of 12 firearms to the Aurora Police Provincial Office (APPO). The handover took place at the APPO Conference Room in Camp Captain Victor Ravina, Baler, Aurora, on February 14, 2025.

The surrendered weapons included a variety of firearms such as two 12-gauge shotguns, an AK-47, a .40 caliber para-ordnance pistol, three .45 caliber Armscor Medallion pistols, a .22 caliber Walther pistol, a 9mm Glock pistol, a 9mm Rock Island pistol, a Norinco pistol, and a 9mm Jericho pistol. These firearms were turned in due to expired licenses and were placed in safekeeping by the police.

APPO Director Col. Lucile Faycho, who oversaw the surrender, emphasized the importance of this action in maintaining order during the election period. She praised the candidates for their commitment to peace and encouraged other firearm owners to follow their example.

The law strictly prohibits the possession, carrying, or transportation of firearms during the election period, which spans from January 12 to June 11 for this year’s midterm elections, unless authorized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). This initiative by Aurora’s candidates is seen as a proactive step towards a safe and orderly electoral process.
