In a significant move against drug proliferation, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Zamboanga Peninsula obliterated over P331 million worth of illegal drugs on February 12, 2025. The operation involved the thermal destruction of 48.7 kilograms of shabu, with 37 kilograms of this amount having been seized during two anti-drug operations in Zamboanga City the previous year. The destruction was carried out in adherence to court orders from various regional trial courts and in collaboration with government agencies and stakeholders.

Maharani Gadaoni-Tosoc, the PDEA Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Director, emphasized that this action reflects the agency’s steadfast commitment to eradicating illegal drugs. She stated, “This is a testament to our unwavering commitment to eliminating illegal drugs and ensuring these confiscated substances will never reach the streets again.” Gadaoni-Tosoc also expressed gratitude to local officials and stakeholders who attended the event, reinforcing their collective determination to achieve a drug-free community.

In a related development, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) conducted a successful buy-bust operation in Caloocan City, capturing a high-value target and her accomplice. The operation led to the seizure of 750 grams of shabu valued at P5.1 million, along with P1 million in cash and the money used in the buy-bust. NCRPO chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin praised the operatives for their dedication to disrupting the illegal drug trade in Metro Manila. The confiscated drugs are set to be examined by the Northern Police District Forensic Unit.
