Iligan City Allocates PHP27 Million for Advanced Mobile Satellite System to Aid Disaster Response

·

In a move to bolster its disaster management capabilities, Iligan City has greenlit a PHP27 million budget for the acquisition of a state-of-the-art mobile satellite communication system. This decision was announced in Cagayan de Oro City by Armien Alloro, the head of the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office. Alloro emphasized that the new system will serve as a pivotal tool in streamlining disaster response efforts. She described it as not only a backup communication network but also a mechanism that can activate an alarm system and collect crucial mapping data. This system is designed to ensure that emergency responders maintain continuous communication during crises. The purchase aligns with the mandates of Republic Act 10121, known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, which obligates local governments to enhance their disaster response infrastructure and equipment.
