The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) in the Philippines is actively working to increase job prospects for skilled Filipino workers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), aligning with the UAE’s strategy to boost its workforce for its 2025 development goals. Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac emphasized the DMW’s dedication to finding more international job opportunities for Filipinos, while also prioritizing their safety and well-being abroad. Cacdac stated that the DMW aims to position overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as key contributors to the global labor market, ensuring their success and protection overseas. At the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai, UAE’s Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, discussed the nation’s goal to attract leading global talent to foster innovation and economic growth. He also stressed the need for sustainable education to bridge skill gaps in the labor market. The summit, held from February 11 to 14, 2025, gathers global leaders and experts to explore trends across various sectors including labor, health, education, climate change, technology, tourism, and emerging economies. In 2024, the DMW and UAE renewed their bilateral agreement, reinforcing their commitment to employment opportunities, ethical employment standards, and worker protection.
