In a concerted effort to uphold election security, the Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) has apprehended 29 individuals for breaching the election gun ban over the course of a month. The operation, which spanned from January 12 to February 12, involved setting up more than 13,400 checkpoints across the region. PRO-10 Director Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman announced that the police confiscated 28 firearms during these operations, underscoring the force’s dedication to maintaining safety and preventing illegal firearm possession within communities. The crackdown was part of a broader initiative in collaboration with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), which included intensified checkpoint operations, police patrols, and other law enforcement activities. During a regional coordination conference in Cagayan de Oro City, Comelec Misamis Oriental officer Rowell Vallador emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to election security, aiming for fairness and transparency in enforcement efforts.
