In a concerted effort to uphold election security, the Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) apprehended 29 individuals for breaching the election gun ban over the course of a month. The operation, which spanned from January 12 to February 12, involved setting up more than 13,400 checkpoints across the region. PRO-10 Director Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman announced that the police confiscated 28 firearms during these operations, underscoring the force’s dedication to maintaining safety and preventing illegal firearm possession in the community. De Guzman emphasized the importance of these efforts in a statement released on Wednesday. In collaboration with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), PRO-10 ramped up its enforcement activities, which included not only checkpoints but also increased police patrols and other law enforcement initiatives. During a regional coordination conference held in Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday, Comelec Misamis Oriental officer Rowell Vallador highlighted the significance of a comprehensive, nationwide approach to election security, aiming to ensure fairness and transparency in the enforcement of election laws.
