Motorists Urged to Bypass Kennon Road Amid Repairs

·

The Department of Public Works and Highways in the Cordillera region has issued a travel advisory urging motorists to steer clear of Kennon Road from February 12 to 14, 2025, due to anticipated heavy traffic caused by ongoing repairs. The repair work, focusing on the temporary bypass at Camp 2 in Tuba, Benguet, is necessary following damage from heavy rains in mid-2024. Engineer Khadaffy Tanggol, the regional director of DPWH-Cordillera, emphasized the need for these repairs to improve travel conditions, particularly for vehicles not suited for rough terrain. The advisory highlights that while Kennon Road is accessible to light vehicles, it remains challenging due to the temporary nature of the bypass. Travelers are encouraged to use alternative routes such as Marcos Highway, San Pascual Road, or Naguilian Road for a smoother journey. Tanggol expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and understanding as the department works on long-term solutions, including the nearly completed rock shed at Camp 6 aimed at mitigating frequent landslides. Kennon Road, a historic route, has been undergoing annual repairs since the significant damage caused by the 1990 earthquake in northern Luzon.
