MinDA and OCD Join Forces to Enhance Disaster Readiness in Mindanao

DAVAO CITY – In a significant move to improve disaster preparedness across Mindanao, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) are collaborating closely. MinDA Secretary Leo Tereso Magno recently announced that a meeting held on February 11 with the OCD was centered around the creation of the Mindanao Disaster Resiliency and Resource Center (MDRRC). This new center aims to implement cutting-edge disaster response techniques, drawing inspiration from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRM) Operations Center. Secretary Magno emphasized the transformative potential of the MDRRC, stating, ‘This project is a game-changer for disaster resilience in Mindanao,’ and highlighted its alignment with the vision of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The envisioned center will emulate Japan’s sophisticated disaster prevention systems and will feature a dedicated warehouse for storing relief supplies. Magno expressed optimism about the project, saying, ‘With support from the OCD and NDRRMC, I am confident that we can replicate this state-of-the-art operations center in Mindanao.’ The partnership between MinDA and OCD is also focused on enhancing regional coordination to better manage disaster scenarios.
