During the League of Municipalities of the Philippines 2025 General Assembly at the Manila Hotel, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. addressed local government candidates, urging them to remain steadfast despite the intense emotions that often accompany elections, especially at the grassroots level. Marcos emphasized the importance of not getting carried away by the fervor of the campaign season, reminding candidates that the core of their mission is public service and helping their fellow Filipinos.
The President highlighted that while elections can be heated and contentious, it is crucial for candidates to remember that they are seeking a mandate from the people to carry out their duties. ‘We must go through elections to regain the people’s mandate to do our job,’ Marcos stated, underscoring the democratic process.
Despite the sometimes harsh exchanges during campaigns, Marcos stressed the ultimate goal of public service. ‘In the heat of the campaign and elections, let’s not forget that we are here to serve and help our countrymen,’ he remarked, encouraging candidates to keep their focus on serving the Filipino people amidst a polarized election environment.
Marcos also called for a cooling-off period post-election, urging everyone to accept the voters’ decision to foster unity and cooperation. ‘After the elections, it can be hard to calm down, but we must do so to unite and work together,’ he said, acknowledging the challenges but emphasizing the necessity of unity.
The campaign period for national positions began on Tuesday, while local campaigning is set to start on March 28, 45 days before the elections.
