MANILA – The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has commenced the process of acquiring the right-of-way (ROW) for the LRT-2 West Extension, according to an announcement made by LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera on Radyo Pilipinas. Cabrera revealed that PHP2 billion has been allocated specifically for this phase of the project, which is part of a larger PHP10 billion budget.

Cabrera emphasized the priority of securing the ROW, which includes the necessary adjustments to utilities such as electrical wires and water pipelines. He stated that once the ROW acquisition is finalized, the project’s implementation would proceed without hitches.

The LRT-2 West Extension is set to expand the current line by five kilometers towards the Port Area in Manila, adding three new stations at Divisoria, Tutuban, and Pier 4.

In addition to the western expansion, Cabrera provided an update on the LRT-2 East Extension, noting that it is currently in the refinement phase following the completion of its feasibility study. The study will soon be forwarded to the Department of Transportation and the National Economic Development Authority for approval. The East Extension aims to reach Cogeo in Antipolo, with plans to include at least three new stations.
