Decade-Long Clan Feud in BARMM Ends in Historic Peace Agreement

·

In a significant move towards peace, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) successfully mediated a resolution to a long-standing clan war in Kadayangan, part of the region’s Special Geographic Area. The reconciliation, facilitated by the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS), concluded a decade of conflict that had caused numerous casualties and extensive property damage. On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, members of the feuding families gathered for a reconciliation meeting, which included a shared meal and discussions aimed at fostering lasting peace. MPOS Minister Hussein Muñoz praised the initiative as a step towards stronger community ties and long-term peace in the region. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders in achieving this resolution. Muñoz, who also serves as a BARMM parliament member, commended fellow parliamentarian Kellie Antao for her advocacy in promoting dialogue and unity. Antao stressed that maintaining peace in BARMM is a collective responsibility and expressed her office’s ongoing support for such peace initiatives. The specifics of the casualties from the feud were not disclosed by the families. Capt. Jose Rey Lopez, the municipal police chief of Kadayangan, reiterated the Philippine National Police’s commitment to supporting the MPOS’s efforts in peacebuilding and reconciliation. This settlement is a part of the broader Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program by the ministry, aimed at resolving all existing clan wars to ensure a safe and peaceful region.
