Comelec Flags Senatorial Candidates for Violating Campaign Poster Regulations

·

Just a day into the campaign period for the May 2025 national elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has identified several senatorial candidates whose campaign materials do not adhere to the established poster guidelines. Comelec Chairperson George Garcia revealed in a Wednesday interview that these violations are widespread across all regions, with approximately five candidates consistently breaching the rules. The issues include non-compliance with size specifications, incorrect placement of posters, and the use of non-eco-friendly materials. Garcia stated that these candidates will receive notices to remove their non-compliant posters and tarpaulins, with a three-day window to comply. Failure to do so could lead to recommendations for election offenses and potential disqualification, prompting the issuance of show cause orders. Garcia refrained from naming the candidates to avoid accusations of bias, emphasizing that daily monitoring will continue. According to Comelec Resolution 11086, permissible election propaganda includes printed materials like pamphlets and leaflets up to 8.5 inches wide and 14 inches tall, posters up to 2 ft. by 3 ft. made from recyclable materials, and streamers up to 3 ft. by 8 ft. In other news, newly appointed Commissioner Noli Rafol Pipo took his oath of office before Garcia on Wednesday, joining Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal, who was sworn in on Monday. Both appointees, previously serving in key roles within the Comelec, will serve until February 2, 2032, pending confirmation by the Commission on Appointments.
