Antique’s Economy Thrives as It Hosts 2025 Regional Sports Event

·

The 2025 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet is proving to be a significant economic catalyst for Antique, as stated by Governor Rhodora Cadiao. The event, set to take place from March 1 to 8, has led to a surge in bookings at hotels and lodging houses in San Jose de Buenavista, the province’s capital. Cadiao expressed her enthusiasm for the event, emphasizing the importance of showcasing Antique’s capabilities and attractions.

Approximately 2,000 athletes from various provinces in Western Visayas are expected to arrive in Antique next week. Beyond the sports competitions, visitors are anticipated to explore local attractions such as the cool highlands of Aningalan in San Remigio, the themed attractions at Madja-as Park in Culasi, and the unique fish spa and ‘kawa’ hot baths at Calawag Mountain Resort in Tibiao.

Preparations for the event are nearly complete across several towns including San Jose de Buenavista, Sibalom, Belison, and Hamtic. However, the rubberized oval track at the Binirayan Sports Complex is still under repair due to the recent arrival of imported rubber.

Education officials, including Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique Superintendent Dr. Nicasio Frio, are currently in the province to finalize preparations. These officials, along with division superintendents and sports coordinators, are inspecting the venues and billeting schools to ensure everything is ready for the regional sports meet.
