In a vibrant start to their election campaign, the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, supported by the administration, launched their bid for the upcoming May 12 elections in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. The event saw all twelve senatorial hopefuls rallying to capture the hearts of the Ilocano electorate. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who was present at the rally, endorsed the full slate, emphasizing their proven track record in public service.
During a press conference at Arabella Events Place, eight candidates outlined their legislative agendas, which included initiatives for sustainable livelihoods, job creation, free medication for the elderly, tax relief, tackling misinformation, and revising the Local Government Code. Marcos highlighted the coalition’s comprehensive lineup, from senators to local councilors, and praised the candidates for their experience and dedication.
Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc urged residents to back the administration’s candidates to continue the Marcos administration’s initiatives. He emphasized the solid support from the north and the candidates’ contributions to the province. Manotoc also stressed the importance of the next three years in advancing development across the nation.
The Alyansa slate features notable figures such as former Interior Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr., Makati Mayor Abigail Binay, Senator Pia Cayetano, former Senator Panfilo Lacson, Senator Lito Lapid, Senator Imee Marcos, former Senator Manny Pacquiao, Senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla Jr., former Senate President Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto III, Senator Francis Tolentino, ACT-CIS Party-list Representative Erwin Tulfo, and Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar.
Choosing Ilocos Norte, a stronghold of the Marcos family, for the campaign kickoff was a strategic move to solidify support in Northern Luzon. Navotas City Representative Toby Tiangco, the coalition’s campaign manager, described the event as more than just a launch but a reaffirmation of their commitment to build on the progress achieved under President Marcos Jr. He underscored Ilocos Norte’s role as a hub of transformative leadership and their intent to deliver results for all Filipinos.
The Alyansa coalition comprises five major political parties: Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, Nationalist People’s Coalition, Nacionalista Party, and National Unity Party.
