Surigao City has become a bustling stopover for international yacht enthusiasts in the early months of 2025. The city has welcomed 51 foreign cruisers aboard 10 yachts since January, reinforcing its reputation as a favored destination for global sailors. These visitors have primarily anchored in the city to handle their immigration paperwork at the local Bureau of Immigration office. Roselyn Merlin, the city’s tourism officer, highlighted the ongoing support provided to these cruisers. She noted that eight yachts docked in January, with an additional two arriving in February. The yachts hail from various countries, including Poland, France, the United States, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Beyond administrative tasks, these cruisers have also explored local eateries and purchased supplies, contributing to the local economy. In the previous year, 32 yachts carrying 105 foreign sailors visited Surigao City, indicating a growing trend of international yacht visits.
