Shear Line to Bring Heavy Rains Across Mimaropa, Bicol, and Samar Until Wednesday

The Philippine Coast Guard District-Palawan conducted rescue operations in Puerto Princesa City on Sunday, February 9, 2025, as the region braces for continued rainfall until February 11 due to a shear line. This weather phenomenon is set to deliver moderate to heavy rains across several provinces in Southern Luzon and Visayas until Wednesday noon.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the provinces expected to be affected until Tuesday noon include Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Eastern Samar, and Northern Samar. Heavy flooding has already been reported in multiple villages in Puerto Princesa City and other southern towns of Palawan following two days of intense rainfall. The affected areas in Puerto Princesa include San Miguel, San Pedro, San Manuel, San Jose, Tagburos, Sta. Lourdes, Tiniguiban, Sicsican, Irawan, Iwahig, and Bancao-Bancao.

From Tuesday noon until Wednesday noon, the shear line’s impact will shift to include Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora, while only Quezon, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur will remain from the initial list of affected areas. Other weather conditions forecasted until 4 p.m. Monday include cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Caraga and Davao Regions due to easterlies. Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and Calabarzon will experience cloudy skies with rains due to the northeast monsoon. The rest of Luzon is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also due to the northeast monsoon, while the rest of Mindanao will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies. No low-pressure area is currently being monitored for potential tropical cyclone development. Sunrise on Monday is scheduled for 6:22 a.m.
