MANILA – As the campaign period for senators and party-list representatives begins on February 11, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has pledged to maintain strict vigilance to prevent any disruptions. Marbil emphasized that the PNP will enforce the law rigorously against any actions that provoke violence, intimidate voters, or undermine the electoral process.
Marbil reiterated the PNP’s commitment to ensuring peace and security as the country approaches the midterm elections on May 12. He stressed that the police force will hold accountable anyone who attempts to disrupt the electoral process through violence or intimidation.
The PNP chief underscored that the integrity of the elections is a top priority and assured that the police will remain impartial. ‘No political ambition should compromise public safety,’ Marbil declared.
To address potential threats, the PNP launched a 100-day security plan on February 5. This plan includes dismantling private armed groups, intensifying operations against loose firearms and wanted criminals, and implementing proactive intelligence monitoring to prevent election-related violence. Strategic police deployments will be made in areas identified as election hotspots, with round-the-clock checkpoints and patrols in high-risk zones.
While prioritizing election security, Marbil assured that the PNP will continue its broader mandate to combat crime, illegal drugs, and other threats to public safety. The PNP will also manage Commission on Elections checkpoints to enforce the gun ban, which remains in effect until June 11.
Local candidates will begin their campaigns on March 28, with all campaigns concluding on May 10.
