Married Couple Caught with Fake Netherlands Visa at Manila Airport

·

At Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City, the Bureau of Immigration detained a couple trying to depart the Philippines with a forged Netherlands visa. The incident occurred when the 26 and 28-year-old couple attempted to board a Cathay Pacific flight to Amsterdam, claiming to be tourists on February 2. Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado revealed that the couple’s visa raised suspicions among immigration officers, leading to their interception. Viado emphasized the training of BI officers in spotting fraudulent documents and warned the public about the dangers and legal repercussions of using fake visas. Further investigation by the BI’s forensic documents laboratory confirmed the visas were counterfeit. The couple confessed to spending PHP268,000 on their travel package, which included the fraudulent visa. They were handed over to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking for deeper investigation. Viado stressed the BI’s commitment to combating immigration fraud and promised strict legal action against those using falsified documents.
