Fuel Subsidy Program for Public Transport Workers Set to Conclude by Mid-2025

·

MANILA – The Department of Transportation has announced that the distribution of fuel subsidies to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators, along with tricycle drivers and delivery riders, is expected to be fully implemented by the second quarter of 2025. Transportation Undersecretary Jesus Ortega emphasized that this initiative aims to mitigate the financial strain caused by rising fuel costs.

The program will be rolled out under the supervision of multiple government agencies: the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for PUVs, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for tricycles, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for delivery riders. Ortega confirmed that the distribution process is already underway and is on track to meet the 2025 deadline, provided all beneficiary account details are verified and finalized.

A total of 1,026,306 individuals will benefit from this initiative. This includes 286,306 PUV units, 600,000 tricycle drivers, and 140,000 delivery service riders. The amount of the cash grant varies according to the type of service provided. Drivers of modern public utility jeepneys and modern UV Express vehicles will receive PHP10,500, while those operating traditional jeeps, traditional UV Express, minibuses, public utility buses, and Filcabs will get PHP5,000. Meanwhile, drivers of tourist transport services, shuttle services, school transport, TNVS, and taxis are eligible for PHP4,500. Tricycle drivers and delivery riders will receive PHP1,100 and PHP2,500, respectively.
