The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed a significant flood control project in Hermosa, Bataan, aimed at reducing the impact of flooding along the Mabiga River. The project, valued at PHP72.4 million, stretches over 558.09 meters and features a reinforced concrete slope protection system with an elevated foundation, designed to enhance structural stability and improve flood management.
District Engineer Michael Lacanlele emphasized the importance of the project, stating that it is essential for safeguarding the community and improving safety for residents and commuters who often face flooding issues. He also highlighted its potential to boost local economic growth by minimizing transportation disruptions during severe weather conditions.
The project, funded through the 2024 General Appropriations Act, was reported to Secretary Manuel Bonoan by the DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineering Office, which underscored its role in reducing property damage and transportation delays.
In related news, the DPWH also announced that the asphalt overlaying project on a section of the Tagum-Panabo Circumferential Road in Asuncion, Davao del Norte, is nearly complete at 94.8%. This 268.9-lineal meter section, part of a P96.07 million initiative funded under the same 2024 General Appropriations Act, is expected to finish ahead of its scheduled completion in May 2025.
DPWH 11 (Davao) Director Juby Cordon noted that the project is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance road safety and connectivity in the Davao Region. The Tagum-Panabo Circumferential Road, connecting the two largest cities in Davao del Norte, plays a crucial role in decongesting traffic on major highways and supporting economic activities such as agri-trading and ecotourism.
Both projects are components of the ‘Build Better More’ program under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration, which aims to improve infrastructure and stimulate economic growth across the Philippines.
