Davao Light Optimistic About Expanding Franchise to Two More Provinces

·

DAVAO CITY – Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. is eagerly anticipating the expansion of its franchise into Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte, following the successful passage of House Bill 11072 through its third and final reading in the Senate. The bill, which aims to broaden the company’s service area, is now pending the final nod from the President’s Office.
Fermin Edillon, who leads the reputation enhancement department at Davao Light, expressed enthusiasm about the bill’s advancement, labeling the potential expansion as a crucial move towards improving power services throughout the region. Edillon emphasized the company’s dedication to delivering safe, reliable, quality, and efficient electricity to its customers. He stated that, upon the bill becoming law, Davao Light would collaborate closely with stakeholders to facilitate a seamless transition.
Edillon also mentioned that the company would keep a close watch on any developments and ensure the public remains well-informed. He expressed that expanding their service area would be a privilege and that Davao Light is excited about the prospect of serving more customers in the Davao Region.
However, the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative (NORDECO) has urged President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to reject the bill, pointing out constitutional and legal issues similar to those that led to the veto of HB 10554 in 2022. Currently, NORDECO is responsible for providing electricity to Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte.
