·

In a robust effort to curb illegal gambling, the Cebu City police have apprehended 1,025 suspects over the course of a month. The Police Regional Office-7 (PRO-7) reported that from January 1 to January 31, 2025, they executed 584 operations targeting illegal gambling activities across the region. These operations led to the arrest of numerous bettors, ushers, and collectors involved in the illegal activities.

Director Redrico Maranan of PRO-7 emphasized that the intensified campaign against illegal gambling is part of a broader strategy to decrease criminal activities in Central Visayas. He highlighted that recent progress in their operations has shown significant success, particularly in the number of arrests and the seizure of funds linked to illegal gambling.

Maranan stressed that tackling illegal gambling not only addresses the issue at hand but also helps mitigate other associated crimes and social problems, thereby enhancing overall community safety. He reiterated the police’s dedication to creating a safe environment where residents can live peacefully, undisturbed by the negative impacts of illegal gambling.

The ongoing campaign involves increased surveillance, undercover operations, and cooperation with local communities to pinpoint and dismantle illegal gambling sites, according to Maranan.
