MANILA – The Philippines is set to be soaked by rain on Thursday, as three distinct weather systems converge over the nation. The shear line is expected to cause scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the Visayas, along with Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte. Similarly, the Davao Region and the rest of Caraga will see scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ). According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the shear line and ITCZ will lead to moderate to heavy rainfall in Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides in these regions. In other parts of the country, the northeast monsoon, known locally as ‘amihan,’ will bring rain to Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and the rest of the Bicol Region, with lighter showers scattered across the rest of Luzon. The ITCZ will also cause isolated rain showers in other areas of the country. PAGASA has warned of strong winds and rough seas in the northern and eastern sections of Luzon, and moderate to strong winds with moderate to rough coastal waters in the eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao. Elsewhere, conditions will feature light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas, as reported by PAGASA.
