This week, the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Davao Region will distribute 22 new hauling trucks valued at PHP70 million to cooperatives across the region. Davao del Sur is slated to receive eight trucks, while Davao Occidental and Davao City will each get seven. The distribution is part of the DA’s INSPIRE program, which focuses on boosting hog repopulation and revitalizing the swine industry post-African swine fever (ASF). Marie Ann Constantino, the technical director for operations at DA-11, emphasized that these bio-secured trucks will enhance operational efficiency, ensure timely deliveries, and improve the handling and storage of agricultural products. She stated that the trucks would contribute to cost-effective operations and aid in the recovery of the swine industry. The trucks come equipped with advanced features such as a water tank, pump, sewage tank outlet, pig guards, and dash cams for operational monitoring. Alongside the truck distribution, the DA-11 Regulatory Division held an orientation on the Animal Welfare Act and the process for obtaining Animal Carrier Permits, aiming to promote animal welfare and prevent abuse. This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to supporting local farmers and revitalizing the agricultural sector in the Davao Region.
