In a significant crackdown on illegal manufacturing and distribution, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) executed a raid on Hot Screen Electric Corporation in Meycauayan, Bulacan, seizing electronics valued at PHP43.36 million. The operation, named Oplan Megashopper, took place on February 5, 2025, and resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including the Chinese owner, Chi Ho.
The raid was conducted under the authority of a search warrant issued for violations of Republic Act 7394, the Consumer Act of the Philippines. CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III emphasized that the operation was part of a broader governmental effort to combat economic sabotage and protect consumer rights. The targeted facility, located on Global St. in Sterling Industrial Park, Barangay Libtong, was found to be involved in large-scale illegal activities that threatened the national economy and undermined legitimate businesses.
Among the items seized were 3,183 units of smart TVs of various brands and sizes, along with a substantial amount of TV assembly components, including panels, monitors, remote controls, back casings, power supplies, speakers, LED boards, glass front covers, and various tools and documents. The arrested individuals face charges under Article 18 (a) of RA 7394 for manufacturing, selling, distributing, or importing consumer products that do not meet the required quality or safety standards set by Philippine law.
Brig. Gen. Torre reiterated the CIDG’s commitment to relentlessly pursue criminals and criminal networks involved in economic sabotage, ensuring a fair environment for lawful businesses and safeguarding the country’s economic health.
