In a significant move to bolster educational infrastructure, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has commenced the construction of school buildings and facilities valued at PHP32.6 million in Maguindanao Sur. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on February 5, 2025, in Maguindanao del Norte, marks a pivotal step in enhancing educational opportunities within the region.
Mohagher Iqbal, the Minister of the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE-BARMM), emphasized the importance of these projects, stating that they are foundational not only for the buildings but for the future of the region’s children. ‘These initiatives are our pledge to provide every Bangsamoro learner with a safe and conducive environment for learning and growth,’ Iqbal remarked.
The projects include the construction of a one-story, two-classroom building at Mompong Elementary School in Barangay Bugawas, Datu Odin Sinsuat, and the development of four additional schools: Sarilika National High School, Taviran Elementary School, Linek Elementary School, and Margues Elementary School. Additionally, Margues Elementary School will benefit from a new covered court with a stage.
Further enhancing the educational landscape, Datu Pinguiaman Elementary School in Barangay Pinguiaman, Datu Odin Sinsuat, will receive a water sanitation project, including the development of a water source. An Educational Learning Center is also planned for Barangay Bugawas.
The MBHTE-BARMM is also extending its efforts to the Special Geographic Area of BARMM, aiming to broaden access to quality education throughout the region.
