In a heartfelt farewell meeting at Malacañang on February 5, 2025, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Thai Ambassador to the Philippines, Tull Traisorat, for his significant contributions to the strengthening of ties between the two nations. Marcos acknowledged the ambassador’s efforts in fostering closer relations, stating, “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you have done to bring our countries closer.” The President highlighted the numerous new agreements and alliances formed between the Philippines and Thailand in recent years, emphasizing the progress in post-pandemic recovery, economic policies, and diplomatic engagement during Traisorat’s tenure in Manila. The Thai envoy, in turn, described his time in the Philippines as “very fruitful and rewarding.” The two countries have solidified their partnership through 54 bilateral agreements spanning sectors such as air services, agriculture, visa abolition, tourism, and various forms of cooperation. Additionally, they have collaborated on issues like illicit trafficking prevention, trade, industry, and defense logistics. In 2023, Thailand ranked as the seventh major trading partner of the Philippines, the eighth largest export market, and the sixth largest import supplier, with a total trade value of USD10.81 billion. This year marks the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Thailand.
