The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has given preliminary approval to remove a U-turn slot on C5 Road in Parañaque City, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion in Metro Manila. This decision was highlighted by MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes during a briefing at Malacañan Palace. The proposal to eliminate the U-turn at the C5-Kalayaan Avenue Interchange was among the key suggestions discussed with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday. Additionally, Artes proposed the installation of a stop light and the construction of an underpass to further streamline traffic in the area. He emphasized that these plans are contingent upon a detailed study of the traffic management plan and the budgeting for the underpass. Artes also updated the President on the progress of the five-year Comprehensive Traffic Management Plan (CTMP), noting that nearly half of its 12 strategies have been implemented, including improvements at intersections and other traffic-related tasks. The CTMP aims to address 209 traffic bottlenecks, enhance traffic signal systems, and promote active transportation among other objectives. Furthermore, Artes discussed the potential benefits of adjusting government workers’ hours to 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., a change previously tested at the MMDA with positive feedback from employees due to reduced traffic exposure. The implementation of this schedule change would depend on data showing significant traffic improvements, particularly on major roads.
