Government Agencies and NGOs Unite for Safe and Transparent Elections in Bicol

In a significant show of unity, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bicol, alongside various government agencies and non-government organizations, gathered at Camp Simeon Ola in Legazpi City on February 5, 2025, to pledge their commitment to ensuring safe and transparent elections in May. The event, marked by a solidarity pact signing, underscored the collective resolve to uphold the integrity of the electoral process in the region.

Comelec-5 regional director Maria Juana Valeza emphasized the importance of the pact, stating that it symbolizes their dedication to protecting democratic values and ensuring a successful electoral outcome. She stressed the necessity for all stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, and citizens, to work together to safeguard every Filipino’s right to vote freely and without intimidation.

Valeza highlighted that the pact is a reminder of the shared responsibility to maintain fairness and transparency in elections. She urged candidates and their supporters to adhere strictly to election laws and principles of fairness.

Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon of the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) reaffirmed the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) commitment to securing the elections. He outlined plans to intensify efforts to protect the sanctity of the ballot, ensure voter safety, and maintain peace and order throughout the electoral period. Dizon called for a united front, emphasizing that the success of the 2025 elections depends on the active participation and cooperation of all sectors.

The event saw the presence of representatives from numerous government agencies, including the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Civil Service Commission, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, among others. Support also came from various NGOs and faith-based organizations, demonstrating a broad coalition dedicated to a peaceful and credible electoral process in Bicol.
