In a significant development in Bagac, Bataan, a 59-year-old communist rebel known as ‘Ka Azur’ surrendered to local authorities on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. The surrender took place at the Bagac Municipal Police Station in Barangay Atilano Ricardo around 12:50 p.m. Ka Azur, a carpenter from Barangay Saysain, handed over an improvised 12-gauge shotgun, a 40mm high-explosive cartridge, and various explosive materials including a time fuse and a detonating cord. He was previously associated with the Bagong Hukbong Bayan, part of the Rehiyong Yunit Guerilla Gawaing Militar – South Party Committee active in the region. The operation leading to his surrender was a collaborative effort by the Bataan 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) led by Lt. Col. Joelito Orias, alongside other law enforcement and military units. Following his surrender, the confiscated items were secured by the Bataan 1st PMFC for further processing. Authorities praised Ka Azur’s decision to lay down arms, highlighting ongoing government initiatives aimed at reintegrating former rebels into society. The Bataan Police encouraged other armed group members to surrender and take advantage of government programs designed to facilitate a peaceful transition back to civilian life.
