CHED Mandates Closure of Specific Programs at Our Lady of Mercy College Due to Non-Compliance

·

MANILA – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has announced the closure of certain programs at Our Lady of Mercy College (OLMC) in Borongan City, citing the institution’s failure to adhere to the Commission’s policies, standards, and guidelines (PSGs). CHED Chairperson J. Prospero de Vera III emphasized that despite efforts to assist OLMC, the college has not met the required standards. The closure affects the Criminology and Nursing programs for the academic years 2025 to 2026, with the government recognition (GR) for these programs being revoked. Additionally, the GR for OLMC’s Bachelor in Elementary Education and two-year Midwifery programs was withdrawn in December 2023. CHED has committed to supporting students impacted by these closures, ensuring they can transfer to other reputable higher education institutions (HEIs). The CHED Eastern Visayas office will facilitate the transfer of first to third-year students to alternative programs or institutions, while fourth-year students will be permitted to complete their studies and graduate by the end of the 2024-2025 academic year.
