Antique’s Local Governments to Host Delegations for Western Visayas Athletic Meet

·

In San Jose de Buenavista, Antique, local government units (LGUs) have agreed to host delegations for the upcoming Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet. This initiative is part of their effort to support the province’s role as host of the regional sports event. Dr. Evelyn Remo, the Chief Education Supervisor at the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique, announced this during a meeting held on February 4 with the provincial government, LGUs, and other stakeholders. She mentioned that three LGUs have committed to hosting a delegation, which includes organizing a welcome party and providing necessary assistance. The WVRAA Meet will see participation from six delegations across Western Visayas, including Antique itself, with each delegation comprising between 700 to 900 officials and athletes, expected to arrive on February 25. Even though Negros Occidental is part of the Negros Island Region (NIR), it will also participate in the event, set to take place from March 1 to March 8, along with delegations from Iloilo, Aklan, Guimaras, and Capiz. The Antique Provincial Police Office (APPO) is tasked with ensuring security and managing traffic, while local communities and stakeholders are urged to keep the host municipalities clean. The event’s playing venues and accommodations are located in San Jose de Buenavista, Sibalom, Belison, and Hamtic. Dr. Remo also recommended that roadsides be adorned with flags and festive decorations to warmly welcome the athletes.
