In a significant step towards rehabilitation, 31 inmates at the Leyte Regional Prison have undergone pre-parole interviews conducted by the Department of Justice – Parole and Probation Administration’s Eastern Visayas office. The Bureau of Corrections announced that these interviews are a crucial part of assessing the inmates’ behavior, rehabilitation progress, and their preparedness to reintegrate into society. The evaluation process ensures that all legal and behavioral criteria are met before parole can be granted, reflecting the government’s efforts to reduce prison overcrowding and support the transition of reformed individuals back into their communities. In related news, the Bureau of Corrections reported the release of 525 inmates in January, including a group of 50 who participated in a ceremony at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City. Since the start of the Marcos administration, a total of 18,947 inmates have been released from various facilities across the country, including significant numbers from the Correctional Institution for Women, Davao Prison, Iwahig Prison, and other major penal farms.
