In a significant development related to the 2009 Maguindanao massacre, a police officer named Datunot Kadir was arrested in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte. The arrest took place on Monday afternoon and was commended by Col. Eleuterio Ricardo Jr., the acting director of the Maguindanao del Norte police. Kadir, aged 48, was apprehended peacefully at a relative’s home in Barangay Making, Parang town, following a tip from a concerned citizen and a plea from his family for a non-violent surrender. At the time of his arrest, Kadir, a resident of Datu Abdullah Sangki, was visiting family in the area. The arrest was executed with a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 221 in Quezon City. A reward of PHP250,000 had been offered for information leading to his capture. Kadir faces 56 counts of murder related to the massacre that occurred in November 2009 in Sitio Masalay, Barangay Salman, Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur, which resulted in the deaths of 58 individuals, including 32 journalists.
