MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Tuesday that the majority of the country will be under the influence of isolated rain showers brought on by the easterlies. These weather patterns are expected to cause scattered rains and thunderstorms specifically in Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro.
In contrast, the northeast monsoon, known locally as ‘amihan,’ will impact Northern and Central Luzon, leading to rainfall in regions such as Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon. PAGASA has issued warnings about the potential for moderate to heavy rains in these areas, which could trigger flash floods or landslides.
Elsewhere, the northeast monsoon is expected to bring lighter, isolated rain showers to Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, and other parts of Central Luzon and Calabarzon. The rest of the Philippines will also experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
PAGASA has cautioned that severe thunderstorms could lead to flash floods or landslides. Additionally, strong winds and rough seas are forecasted for Northern Luzon and the eastern part of Central Luzon, while light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Currently, PAGASA has not detected any low pressure areas that could develop into tropical cyclones.
