In a significant crackdown on smuggling, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) executed a raid in Batangas, seizing petroleum products and equipment valued at PHP12.2 million. The operation, which took place early Tuesday morning, led to the arrest of 26 individuals, including a Chinese national. CIDG Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III explained that the action was initiated following a tip from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) about suspected smuggling activities at the port. The coordinated effort involved CIDG’s Batangas and Calabarzon units, the San Juan Municipal Police, BOC operatives, and the Philippine Coast Guard. The raid at Subukin Port in San Juan town uncovered six straight truck tankers, four trailer trucks, one straight truck, and a fishing vessel modified to transport 200,000 liters of petroleum. The seized items were handed over to the BOC, while the suspects were detained at the Batangas CIDG, pending charges under Presidential Decree No. 1865 for illegal petroleum trading. Torre praised the collaborative efforts of the involved agencies and vowed to continue the fight against crime.
