Iloilo City Boosts Festival Funding to PHP50 Million for 2025

·

Iloilo City has significantly increased its festival budget to PHP50 million for the year 2025, a rise from the previous year’s allocation of PHP40 million. This decision was announced by Mayor Jerry Treñas during a press conference held on February 3, 2025. The funds will be managed by the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI), which plays a crucial role in organizing the city’s vibrant festival calendar.

The mayor highlighted the necessity for a larger budget, citing the expansion of the city’s festivals, particularly the renowned Dinagyang Festival. This festival, which spans seven days and peaks during the fourth weekend of January, has grown to surpass even the traditional Jaro fiesta in scale. The increased power demand during Dinagyang, reaching an additional four megawatts daily, underscores the festival’s significant impact on the city’s infrastructure.

Looking ahead, preparations for the 2026 Dinagyang Festival are set to commence in the final quarter of 2025, necessitating early financial support for participating schools and local communities. Mayor Treñas also praised the IFFI for its successful management of the recent five-day Chinese New Year festivities, which wrapped up on the preceding Saturday.

Beyond Dinagyang, Iloilo City hosts a variety of other festivals throughout the year, including the Paraw Regatta in March, the Festival of Food in April, the Bike Festival in July, and the Art Festival in October, all contributing to the city’s rich cultural tapestry.
