Canlaon City Delivers Over PHP 12 Million in Development Projects to Two Communities Amid Volcanic Challenges

·

In a significant move to bolster community infrastructure, the Canlaon City government in Negros Oriental has successfully handed over development projects valued at over PHP 12 million to Barangay Linothangan and Barangay Bucalan. This initiative comes despite the ongoing disturbances caused by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon, showcasing the city’s commitment to progress amidst adversity.

The turnover, which took place this week, was initially delayed due to the volcanic activity that erupted on December 9 of the previous year. According to Edna Lhou Masicampo, the city’s information officer-designate, the projects were in various stages of completion before the eruption disrupted the schedule.

Barangay Linothangan benefited from 17 projects totaling PHP 6 million. These included enhancements to the livestock auction market, installation of solar lighting at the village hall’s covered court, construction of waiting sheds and pathways, rehabilitation of the daycare center, establishment of a materials recovery facility, and improvements to the water system. Additional funds were allocated for basketball court upgrades, multipurpose pavement, and canal concreting.

On the other hand, Barangay Bucalan received nine projects worth PHP 6.8 million. These projects involved the construction of waiting sheds, pathways, and solar-powered streetlights, along with road concreting in strategic locations and enhancements to the covered court.

The local government of Canlaon City fully funded these initiatives, demonstrating a strong dedication to improving the quality of life for its residents even in the face of natural challenges.
