Gatchalian also pointed out the essential contribution of Filipinos to the U.S. economy and urged for policies that treat them with respect and dignity, irrespective of their immigration status. This support comes amid growing worries about the potential deportation of undocumented Filipinos under Trump’s policies. Marcos, in a recent media briefing in Cebu City, confirmed his plans to meet Trump, emphasizing the need to address trade, defense, security, and the new immigration policies. The Department of Foreign Affairs has reassured that mass deportations are not expected, noting that during Trump’s first term, the U.S. deported only a few hundred undocumented Filipinos each month.
