Philippines to Host ASEAN Correctional Leaders in Palawan

The Philippines is set to welcome ASEAN correctional leaders to the ASEAN Regional Correctional Conference (ARCC) in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, from February 14 to 17. The conference, themed ‘Shaping the Future of Corrections Together,’ will be co-hosted by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). It aims to tackle pressing issues such as prison overcrowding and resource scarcity, fostering a platform for sharing innovative solutions and best practices among ASEAN nations. Gregorio Catapang Jr., Director General of BuCor, highlighted the significance of this inaugural hosting by the Philippines, emphasizing the opportunity for mutual learning and enhancement of correctional services. Representatives from all ASEAN countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste, are expected to attend. Additionally, 28 international organizations and various Philippine government agencies and legislators have been invited to participate in this landmark event.
