NAIA Terminal 4 Renovation Stopped; Terminal 5 in the Works, Says MIAA Head

·

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has announced the cessation of renovation activities at Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 4. MIAA’s general manager, Eric Ines, confirmed the halt but revealed that New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the private operator, is now focusing on building a new Terminal 5. Originally, NNIC had planned to start safety upgrades and renovations at Terminal 4 on November 6, with an expected reopening in February. However, Ines stated that the current plan does not include reopening Terminal 4, though he did not elaborate further. MIAA oversees NAIA’s operations under a public-private partnership with NNIC. Last year, NNIC aimed to enhance Terminal 4’s comfort and efficiency for travelers and promised regular updates via social media. Terminal 4 previously served airlines like AirSWIFT, Sunlight Air, and CebGo, which operated smaller aircraft to island destinations. The Manila Slot Coordination Committee, which includes key aviation authorities and NNIC’s general manager, is planning to relocate turboprop operations from NAIA starting in March, with a full transition planned for the 2025-2026 winter schedule. Ines also mentioned that the construction of Terminal 5, which will extend Terminal 2, requires the demolition of the Philippine Village Hotel first. Once finished, Terminal 5 is expected to handle an additional 35 million passengers each year.
